Members from the Mid-Peninsula Boys & Girls Club spent time at Santa Clara University on Thursday, October 10. Our Youth of the Year candidates were accompanied by club supporter and tour organizer, Liz Vaughan and her husband Greg Vaughan, and Youth of the Year coach, Eric Colson. The campus was abuzz with activity, their new President, Kevin O’Brien, S.J. was inaugurated that day.
Our members toured various campus facilities and met with current SCU students. The SCU students shared their experiences from three different stages of their college careers. These students shared real-life stories about their time at SCU and gave advice about applying to college. Club member, Scarlett A. shared her most memorable moment was,
“... hearing the conversation between a freshman and a senior about their major. It was natural, friendly, and it made me feel comfortable because I realized that Santa Clara is a community of people who want you to succeed and have things in common. There is more to see."
Scarlett is a senior at Mercy High School in Burlingame and is currently in the college application process.
This awesome opportunity would not be possible without the generous support from Liz, Greg, and Eric. As well as club staff ensuring the safety of all of our members. We hope to have many more opportunities like this in the future.
