On Tuesday, June 4, 2019 members from the DeLue clubhouse hosted their end of the year showcase for Girls Who Code. Members of Girls Who Code built a website to show what they learned. At the event, they taught not only their website, but share their experiences and knowledge with the rest of the girls at the clubhouse. Members explored women’s experiences at the personal, local and global level. The girls used technology to learn about and challenge patriarchy and sexism.
Members in the 5th grade through high school spent a whole year learning about the types of coding technology. Throughout the year, girls also learned about the many women pioneers in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our partnership with Girls Who Code and the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club, allowed our girls the opportunity to not just explore STEM related fields but build their STEM identity in a safe and courageous space at DeLue.
