On April 3rd, MPBGC's partnership with SHFB expanded to serve the community near the Dore clubhouse as well! With this great news, many Club supporters and volunteers started to support the Food Drive by dropping off food supplies and other essential supplies for cleaning and sanitizing. Within three weeks, the number of families served by Dore's food distribution TRIPLED! For this success, we are especially thankful for the support from community members such as La Fonda Cocina Mexicana, members of local chapters of the National Charity League, and members of local chapters of the Young Men's Service League, and many more individuals who helped us by donating food, supplies, and their time.
Together, MPBGC's two clubhouses helped feed almost 500 families in one week. Staff who have helped with setting up and passing out food were excited about the cause. One staff member said, "it felt good to get out of the house and help those in need!" and many mentioned that the food distribution has been an uplifting experience because it is an opportunity to talk to members, check-in with their families, and see their smiles. For some staff, the food distribution is also a way to teach members that we are still here for them, and "even in a world crisis, we can also be there for one another."
With the shelter-in-place extension, MPBGC is determined to gather more funding, donations, and resources to continue the Food Drive through May and potentially summer to ensure all families stay safe and have access to healthy foods weekly.
