Earlier last month, three Keystone Club teens and one advisor attended the 50th Annual National Keystone Conference in Chicago, Illinois.
The National Keystone Conference is Boys & Girls Clubs of America's premier teen conference. The conference provides Keystone Club members with positive leadership experiences to engage and socialize with peers, explore teen issues relevant to their lives, and develop skills to support and enhance services and leadership efforts in their Clubs and communities.
During the conference, our Keystone Club 650 Bulldogs were inducted into the prestigious Gold Chartered Clubs. To our excitement, our three Keystoners, Isabela, Sela and Tania also volunteered for several sessions such as BGCA and Planet Fitness's Sticks & Stones Workshop to address bullying as well as the SMART Girls Expo. They even hosted their own workshop presentation for Keystoners throughout the nation to action plan in activating their legacy. With this experience being Mid-Peninsula Boys & Girls Club's first time attending the conference, we are amazed and motivated to carry on the Movement among our younger members back at our local Clubs.
Erika, the advisor who traveled with the Keystoners, served as their advisor for the last two years and is also Mid-Pen's Development Associate. She worked closely with Sela, Tania, and Isabela to keep them engaged throughout the conference, held them accountable throughout the week and ensured the safety of our youth while away from home. During the conference, Erika Dugay received the Debra Williams Clark 2017 Spirit of Keystone Award, which acknowledges Club leaders who have the commitment to inspire and coach advisors in the Keystone movement to build a tradition of excellence.
Our teens were among the 2,500 leaders worldwide from traditional Clubhouses, school based-services and military installations to attend the conference, which reinforces leadership and provides a platform for teens to engage in thought-provoking sessions and interactive activities.
Thank you to Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Planet Fitness and the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence for securing us an opportunity to participate in this year's conference!
