Youth of the Year Nominees and Millbrae Members Clean Up Their Community

Our mission at the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as caring, responsible and productive citizens. On Tuesday, July 16, members from the Millbrae Community Youth Center (MCYC) clubhouse and our Youth of the Year nominees from the DeLue Clubhouse and San Mateo Dore Clubhouse participated in taking care of their local community.

The Youth of the Year Nominees, Dayanara R. (DeLue Clubhouse), Vincent M. (DeLue Clubhouse), and Scarlett A. (San Mateo Clubhouse), supported the MCYC Clubhouse with their Community Clean-Up Day. We are proud to see our members embody our mission statement of being caring, productive and responsible through cross clubhouse collaboration to clean up Taylor Middle School and the surrounding downtown Millbrae area.

Once the students completed cleaning around the Millbrae area they discussed the importance and impact of participating in community service. Dayanara shared with her peers that,

“Community service gives people a sense of pride, accountability, and a sense of responsibility for the community. This gives people hope and the motivation to make their communities healthier, safer, and better through their actions.”

Scarlett learned more about empathy through helping out her fellow club members,

“People show genuine appreciation when they see people helping to clean the community and as a leader and a teen, I am a role model for the children around me. I am responsible for my actions, which influences their motivation to do good and make a positive impact in the community.”

At MPBGC, we care about members and our community partners. We want to see our members thrive. Another member and Youth of the Year nominee, Vincent, understands, “that [community service] is important. By instilling these values in our youth, we are able to better prepare ourselves for the future.” Our members recognize that maintaining and growing the community around them is hard work, but necessary for everyone in the future.

Thank you to everyone that took time to participate in the Community Clean-Up. Click the link for more photos from the day!
